We ran across an article this morning where this woman basically dissects a Pumpkin Spice latte from Starbucks. She apparently has trouble for a while getting them to release information to her on what the exact ingredients are. We decided to look into our ingredients and display them for you. Our latte includes: pumpkin spice torani syrup, espresso, milk In the picture below is a detailed list I made of all the ingredients in the syrup and alternative milk options (I did not find any ingredients in the Battenkill Creamery whole milk that we use) We keep our latte pretty simple with only one kind of syrup instead of multiple syrups and we do not use any sauces. I looked up many pumpkin spice lattes from different coffee shops and I cannot find 100% real pumpkin ingredients though. I would love to know if anybody has ever tried a pumpkin latte with real pumpkin ingredients. Please let us know, I would love to hear! If you would like to take a look at the article that I was referring to, here it is:
http://foodbabe.com/2014/08/25/starbucks-pumpkin-spice-latte/ We all know from a previous post of mine that coffee has some health benefits but what about tea? You can be certain that tea has plenty benefits of its own! ![]() Tea can help with weight loss- Studies show that drinking tea more than once a week has been linked to a lower body-fat percentage and lower waist circumference. Even if you drink any kind of tea with skim milk it is a lower calorie alternative to other sugary drinks. Green tea is also known to help your body burn fat as fuel. Tea helps hydrate your skin- A study has been said that if you are drinking up to 6 cups of tea a day it can have the same hydrating effect as drinking water throughout the day Tea can give you healthy looking skin- White tea has been known to have anti-inflammatory properties to reduce swelling of the skin. Healthy skin is also well hydrated skin. Tea has beauty effects as well- When you place a tea bag soaked in warm water it can reduce puffy eyes. Peppermint tea can be used as a great mouthwash and fresh brewed tea can be great after shampooing as a conditioner. Tea can help with cancer and different diseases- The antioxidants in tea might help with all kinds of cancer. It is definitely not a miracle cure but it may help reduce your chances. It is also linked to a lower risk of Parkinson's disease and can reduce your risk of a heart attack. Tea can help your teeth- Unsweetened tea contains fluoride and tannins that can help keep plaque away. Tea can help with bug bites and sunburns- If you get a mosquito bite, place chamomile tea on it and it can help. Also, tea can be used to soothe a sunburn. Cold compresses made out of tea bags can relieve pain and reduce redness Not in any particular order, here are the most popular coffee shop drinks (including our shop) If you have a favorite then let me know in the comment box! ![]() Americano A shot or two of espresso with hot water added ![]() Cappuccino Espresso with a little bit of steamed milk topped with a lot of foam ![]() Mocha Espresso with steamed milk and chocolate (you can add whipped cream as well!) *Need a twist?*- Add raspberry or mint for a different take on this delicious chocolate coffee drink ![]() Café au Lait Half coffee with half steamed milk ![]() Espresso Coffee brewed by forcing a small amount of nearly boiling water under pressure through finely ground beans. ![]() Latte Espresso with steamed milk and little to no foam *Need a twist?* Add any of our flavors or flavor combos to have a delicious specialty latte- like our French Toast latte (maple, caramel, vanilla, white chocolate and cinnamon) ![]() Breve Espresso with steamed half and half ![]() Macchiato Double shot of espresso with foam on top ![]() Chai Latte Half steamed milk with half of our home brewed chai and a pump of vanilla syrup *Need a twist?* Add honey to make it even sweeter! ![]() Red Eye Coffee with a shot of espresso On Tuesday we had the special honor or having Riki Rachtman in our coffee shop. In case you do not know who he is, he is most famous for hosting MTV's Headbangers Ball from 1990-1995. In 2003 he became the host of a rock music and NASCAR themed talk show called Racing Rocks. He currently still does this along with a new exciting project of his. He now is doing Rikis Ride which he started on July 8th and is happening until August 30th. He took his Harley Davidson and is driving it 8,000 miles, 1 lap around America. While he is doing this, he asks people to tell him where to go through Twitter and keeps it updated every day. Deathwish is one of his sponsors which lead him to come here! A couple of days ago he came to Deathwish to take a look at what goes on behind the scenes and to look at some of the pretty awesome machinery they have going on. Deathwish then took him to Coffee Traders to give him a look at where everything started. And here he is at Chris' Coffee sampling some delicious coffee Be sure to follow him on Twitter to keep up with the rest of his journey!
https://twitter.com/RikiRachtman I know this has nothing to do with coffee but I wanted to take the time today to remember a man that many people loved dearly and laughed with throughout all these years, Robin Williams. Robin was a well known actor and comedian who played many hilarious roles. He was a comedic genius. He could make you laugh and cry at the same time. Some of his well known acting roles include Mrs. Doubtfire, Jumanji, Good Will Hunting, Aladdin and Hook. One of my personal favorites has always been his role as the Genie in Aladdin. I grew up watching that movie and he always made me laugh throughout that movie. I read my daughter an Aladdin story every night and she always laughs at the goofy big blue Genie. He was an inspiration to many people and he will be missed very dearly. He brought light to this sometimes dark world. He allegedly committed suicide, he has been battling depression for many years. This makes me think, just because somebody is laughing does not mean that somebody is okay on the inside. So many people loved this man and I think it is important to always tell your loved ones how much you care for them and love them. This was an extremely tragic event that made many people sad but I still want to shine light on how wonderful of a person he was and how many life's he has changed just from his amazing acting. My heart goes out to his family and I want us all to just take a minute to celebrate his life. Genie, you are now free. R.I.P Robin Williams. You will be so very missed.
Today I took the time to look up some of the weirdest, coolest looking coffee machines out there. Below I will post pictures of the ones I thought were the most unique! ![]() Coffee Hourglass This coffee machines works without electricity. You combine ground beans with water and let them infuse for 12-24 hours. After that just turn it over and drain 16 oz of extract through the filter and combine it with hot water. ![]() Cocoon Coffee Maker This nifty device makes sure that your coffee is heated perfectly and stays warmer longer. It distributes coffee perfectly as it brews. After it is done the outside bowl acts as an insulator for the coffee center. This would be pretty cool to watch as it is happening. ![]() Roaster Grinder Brewer This looks like a science project but it is actually a lot more simple than you think. You start with 50 raw coffee beans and roast them yourself to a roast you enjoy. Then you cool the beans, grind them and heat the water to a boil. Add the beans, brew for 4 minutes and that is it! The whole process takes less than 30 minutes and you get the most perfect cup of personalized coffee. ![]() Kahva Coffee Maker I've never seen something like this before. You fill it with water and bring it to a boil and it the water somehow flows upward and mixes with the coffee grounds in the top. Then you turn the heat off and watch the brewed coffee flows towards the bottom. I would love to see this work its magic. ![]() WMF1 Single Serve Coffee Maker This is the most simple design I have seen. This comes with a mug that fits perfectly inside and whenever you want a cup of coffee you press the button above the mug and in 30 seconds you have your coffee! ![]() Yama Cold Brew Tower All you need for this cool looking cold brew coffee maker is ice, water and fresh coffee. You pour ice and water into the top. The second part, you put fresh ground coffee into. Once you turn the dripper on, it is one drip per second. This is a long process (5-8 hours) but totally worth it! ![]() Mypressi All you have to do with this add fresh ground coffee or espresso, add hot water and that is it. This requires no external power. ![]() Gothic Steampunk Coffee Machine This coffee machine is the reason I decided to write this blog and research more cool looking coffee machines. It employs the cold brew method of making coffee: letting the grounds steep in room temperature or cold water, then filtering down into the waiting decanter. The coffee can fall straight down from the glass canisters. Water is dripped from tanks through the grounds, where it is collected in a beaker. For more info on this coffee machine visit this website and you can also view a picture of the entire machine and a video on how it is made! ![]() Coconut Chai This black tea is has full notes of cardamom, ginger and clove with a sweet hint of tropical coconut.
